rom the 14th to the 22th June 2017, in occasion of San Francisco Design Week, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Consulate General in San Francisco will host Vivere alla Castiglioni. Exhibition Vivere alla Castiglioni is set up by the Fondazione Achille Castiglioni in Milan and overseen by architect Valentina Anania.

For the first time stateside, Vivere alla Castiglioni is a tribute to iconic Italian designers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, as well as a celebration of Italian design and the crucial role it has played in shaping modern society.

Endorsed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this exhibition includes pieces by worldwide brands like Alessi, Brionvega, FLOS, Zanotta, Poltrona Frau and CoorItalia, a striking example of #vivereallitaliana (lit. Italian way of life).

Vivere alla Castiglioni puts on display some of the most iconic work by the Castiglioni brothers, guiding visitors through the history of modern design. But, this exhibition is unlike any other, in fact the San Francisco Design Week will be brought to life by live performances, especially designed to showcase the brothers’ most popular pieces.

This exhibition has an informal vibe: popular pieces by Achille and Pier Giacomo, video interviews and period photographs of the designers’ studio (the current headquarters of the Fondazione Castiglioni) encourage a constructive dialogue on design. Plus, the designers’ heirs Giovanna and Carlo Castiglioni will host conferences and live performances, which focus on the Italian way of life. Vivere alla Castiglioni starts at Pier 27 on the 14th and 15th June at Pier 27, it moves to the CoorItalia showroom on June the 16th and is at the Italian Cultural Institute from the 17th to the 22nd June.

With a pinch of irony, Vivere alla Castiglioni brings a taste of Milan to the United States. And most importantly, it’s a clever way of showing how much Italian design has influenced the city of San Francisco. Still not convinced? So, why don’t you use San Francisco Design Week as an excuse to visit the city and to look for Italian design, using maps provided by Giovanna and Carlo Castiglioni.
