Pedrali: 2020 in five words

| Designbest editorial staff

Monica Pedrali, is the CEO, commercial and marketing director of Pedrali—founded in 1963 by her father Mario. She started off in the family business by working in the sales department and then, together with her brother, took over the company reins in the nineties. An important second phase in the company’s development thus began, already having proved its ability for innovation and quality design through collaborations with established designers. Under Monica’s guidance, it witnessed a significant growth in foreign markets which brought Pedrali into distribution in over 100 countries around the world.

Monica Pedrali tells Designbest about the five keywords for Pedrali in 2020:

“Beauty finds its way into the collections which the company introduces every year on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile, where it has participated for 32 years. This year it is using digital com-munication to respond to the absence of such an important event and the other numerous interna-tional trade fairs it takes part in. Beauty comes from the collaborations with Italian and international designers capable of fully embracing the company’s philosophy, enriching it with an invaluable contribution. It is in the beauty of designs where these products and their stories find space and characterization. And beauty also means being promoters of Made In Italy products.”

“Tradition is linked to the story of Mario Pedrali, who in 1963 founded a workshop in Palazzolo sull’Oglio, in the province of Brescia, Italy, where he started to produce the first collections of out-door seating in wrought iron. Ever since the seventies, collaborations with architects and designers both in Italy and abroad had been established, with continual specialization in industrial production aimed at the contract sector. It is a family and business story which brought Mario Pedrali to be recognized with the prestigious “Imprenditore Olivettiano”award.”

“Pedrali is a 4.0 industry whose factories are equipped with interconnected machinery. It has invest-ed in the digitalization of production for many years. Every year a significant part of its profits gets invested in innovation, technology and plants. The company chooses Italian machinery to bring this important value into every area of the supply chain:  from raw materials to plants, machinery and processing, all of which get carried out internally. In 2016 “Fili d’erba” was inaugurated, Pedrali’s automatic warehouse designed by CZA - Cino Zucchi Architetti: a completely automated state-of-the-art structure that is active 24/7.”

“Innovation also means looking at the future with an eye on environmental sustainability, today more than ever, as long as wellness and respect for the environment are our priorities. During the produc-tion processes the greatest attention is given to reducing the consumption of raw materials, the ra-tionalization of resources, reuse and/or recycling of waste, as well as emissions controls. Making lasting products, both from an aesthetic and durability point of view is the key to guaranteeing sus-tainability. Starting from their design, Pedrali’s pieces are conceived to be disassembled and pro-duced through processes aimed at limiting consumption.”

“The uniqueness of the “Italian way” is in being able to bring together human enrichment, aesthetic excellence, savoir faire, technology, artisanal expertise and a culture of design that feeds on an ex-change between entrepreneurs and designers. Being Made In Italy is an asset which is capable of inextricably uniting quality and research. Pedrali’s philosophy has always supported the importance of Italian companies. This is where the decision to make everything internally comes from—at its two production sites in Mornico al Serio and Manzano. The objective is to offer clients an authentic guarantee of quality given that the company completely controls the entire chain of production.”
