talian brand Cassina gears up for a year of celebrations to mark its 90th birthday, in 2017. And while this is happening, two of the brand’s most iconic designs – the Nuvola Rossa bookcase and the 699 Superleggera chair – will be 40 and 60 years old respectively. And what better occasion to wear a red dress than Christmas? On this momentous occasion the Nuvola Rossa bookshelf (designed by Vico Magistretti in 1977) and the 699 Superleggera chair (designed by Gio Ponti in 1957) come out in a new red version. The timeless frame of Nuvola Rossa is now available in red lacquer; the 699 Superleggera chair is a limited edition (60 pieces for its 60 years) upholstered in Boxblocks fabric designed by Dutch artist Bertjan Pot. The result is two exclusive pieces manufactured in great detail, including the joinery, by Cassina, at the heart of the Meda company: high quality that will never go out of fashion. “The world always needs to find poetry and authenticity in everyday objects“ This is what Vico Magistretti stated, then he continued: ”Initially we thought that what is beautiful is useful, but now we know that what is useful is beautiful”. So, let this Christmas be full of beautiful things!
