ithout a doubt, D 156.3 is a real icon, designed in the fifties by Gio Ponti, one of the top names of the twentieth century. D 156.3 was originally designed for American business Altamira, started by a nephew of Spanish entrepreneur George De Cuevas. It was first displayed in the brand’s New York showroom, alongside the entries of the X Triennale di Milano which included pieces by the likes of Ico Parisi, Franco Albini, Carlo De Carli and Ignazio Garbella, just to name a few. Needless to say, it was an instant hit.
On the occasion of the 2017 Salone del Mobile, Milan, D 156.3 will come out in a new exclusive version. What’s more, for the next ten years, Molteni&C will be the only brand around the world to have the license to re-edit original designs by Gio Ponti. D 156.3 is part of a series of Gio Ponti re-editions started in 2012, and each year it includes new pieces (11 and counting, which include drawers, armchairs, desks, chairs, tables, beds etc.).
No need to change the slightest thing about D 156.3; this is still an extremely current piece. Manufactured from superior quality materials, D 156.3 still feels really modern: solid maple frame either untreated or in semi-gloss black lacquer, ergonomic backrest in criss-cross elastic straps and quilted seat, upholstery available in three different types of leather or exquisite fabrics. All pieces are sanded-down and assembled by hand: superior craftsmanship communicates with contemporary design. D 156.3 is a truly timeless piece, which makes us dream time and time again.
D 156.3 will be added to the Gio Ponti Collection started in 2012, and each year it includes new pieces (11 and counting, which include drawers, armchairs, desks, chairs, tables, beds etc.).
