E

la nave va (And The Ship Sails On), the film directed by Federico Fellini in 1983, gave us a unique vision of society. And lo and behold, here comes a sofa with the same name with its own unique vision of comfort.

  • What it is E la nave va by Alias, the sofa inspired by boat hulls.
  • What makes it special Its sinuous structure recalls wooden boat hulls. The visible ash and oak slats create its striking form with unexpected lightness and elegance that completely focuses on ergonomics. It’s no surprise that this project won the Red Dot Design Award 2021.
  • How it is made The structure is made up of visible slats and elastic ribs attached to two wooden rails and suspended on aluminum feet. The curved multilayer ash and oak give shape to a sinuous, light and bold form that embraces the large cushion. The fabric belt that frames the structure allows for a better distribution of the weight so the sofa can perfectly fit to our bodies.
  • Whose idea it is Atelier OÏ, the Swiss design studio that favors construction principles to formal design. Founded in 1991 in La Neuveville by Aurel Aebi, Armand Louis and Patrick Reymond, it works in various design disciplines and architecture, creating continuous connections thanks to their team spirit and propensity for experimentation. Many of the studio’s projects have received international awards.
  • We chose it because… It’s enveloping, dynamic, bold and relaxing. In short, with this sofa we are enchanted by the thrill of nautical adventures and feel embraced by the sea which lulls us into a state of permeant relaxation. It reinvents aesthetic canons in order to allow us to give in to a new and inviting form of comfort.
