ouses and their inhabitants share shapes, colours and souls.  In the "Casa del Design" in Milan, the heart of this house echoes the beating of hers: Silvana Annicchiarico. Born in Belgium, she has Italian roots, from the Puglia region. Combining competence and sheer vitality, she has been the creator and director of the Triennale Design Museum since 2007.  She boasts an outstanding professional experience and a keen interest for creative projects. During her career, these components have challenged what seems to be a striking contradiction:to reconcile the static nature of museums, adding to it the creative energy of design. It's certain that Silvana has made the most of her skills and won this challenge: the result is a new way of interpreting and enjoying design projects. And after ten years, this direction is still able to inspire her public with innovative and diverse interpretations. What's her magic formula? The idea of a flexible ever-changing museum, like a living organism, for an original insight. Silvana and the key players of all the editions of the Triennale, take us through a journey into new perspectives on Italian design and conventional scenarios.

What does the word beauty mean for you?
... grueling work pace that can give us a chance to almost attain beauty.

What is the first item, room or place you remember?
The loft of my childhood, packed with trunks.

Glasses. Sunglasses.

What is your secret corner or hiding place?
The tower room of my mountain house: a peaceful place.

Which room in your home do you identify with the most?
It depends on the days, my moods and time, intending the time I have to do certain things. I'm not at all influenced by the weather.

Do you allow ugly objects in your home?
Every house has ugly objects. It depends on how you look at them.

What does “design” mean for you?
The only thing I didn’t tell when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up.

If you could be an item of design, what would you like to be and what object you wish you had invented?
The zipper, for its opening / closing possibility

What bores you and what amuses you?
The lack of irony bores me. Irony amuses me.

If you weren’t Silvana Annicchiarico, who would you like to be?
Luna, my cat.
