IND (Milano Innovation District), the most important European innovation district which is located in the former area of Expo 2015, has opened its doors to Designtech, the first technological innovation hub in the design, furniture and construction sector.
“Designtech is a forward-thinking initiative which is able to concretely create a wide range of possibilities,” explained the President of Lombardy, Attilio Fontana. “It is also the reality after the technological phase and a new way to think about work and sociality.”
This innovative startup which required over two years of work and research by a group of businesspeople and professionals in Hi-Interiors, industrial design, the auto industry, boating, hospitality, fashion and media was created to build a cultural and professional bridge between companies and the next generation of talents, digital entrepreneurs and designers.
Highlighting the soul of design, accelerating technological development and looking towards the future are the objectives of Designtech, a new laboratory which today has 38 partners and sponsors including the best companies working in design like Pedrali, Caimi, Ernestomeda, Playwood, Adrenalina, Pininfarina, Herman Miller, Microsoft and many others. It is a place where the biggest Made-In-Italy brands will meet with the biggest international ones and startups in order to develop sustainable living solutions. “It is a complex creature,” said Designtech co-founder Ivan Tallarida, “with lots of creative players which are seeking to renew the domestic and work spaces we live in every day.”
The space has been designed to be a large incubator of ideas and a co-working space which extends within the Village Pavilion. Plus, a second 1,500-sqm co-fabrication space is already being built in the heart of the Certosa District, between MIND and City Life, in the ex-Kelliker redevelopment area. All the co-working, co-factory and co-living spaces will be managed by Designtech.
The goal is to create a dynamic and competitive ecosystem for design which ranges from the furniture to the construction sector and includes architecture and real estate in order to foster a synergetic and collaborative future which will benefit the entire community.
