ecently opened in the vibrant Porta Volta neighbourhood in central Milan, luxury Hotel VIU Milan fully embodies the cosmopolitan spirit of this city. Both timeless and refined, Hotel VIU Milan is a clear reference to the nearby Bosco Verticale (lit. vertical forest) by Stefano Boeri as well as the skyscrapers in the centre of town.
This 5 start hotel is placed in an extremely strategic location, a stone’s throw away from the Bastioni (the city walls), the skyscrapers of the Isola neighbourhood and the old town centre. Constructed by studio Arassociati in partnership with real estate group Viscardi, Hotel VIU Milan offers breathtaking views over the city skyline while pampering its guests with extreme luxury.
The hotel’s groundbreaking sustainable structure is a real surprise. Its glass facade has lush vegetation growing all around it, a detail which brings to mind the world-famous Bosco Verticale. Interiors are by iconic Italian brand Molteni &C, who has overseen everything from fine fabrics, to the soothing colour scheme and the sleek furniture.
Iconic pieces by Molteni have been carefully laid out on the oak parquet flooring: the Asterias table by Patricia Urquiola, the Freestyle sofa by Ferruccio Laviani and the D 154.2 armchairs by Gio Ponti, just to name a few. And there's also bespoke furniture by the brand’s Contract Division, especially designed for the lobby, lounge bar and restaurants, as well as for the bedrooms and suites (124 rooms all together).
Everything in the Hotel VIU Milan is custom made, a true example of Italian know-how: the delicate colour palette, the exquisite timber used (walnut, oak, rosewood), its modern-classic style, mood lighting by Flos and rich fabrics by Rubelli.
Floor-to-ceiling glazing, private terraces and the spectacular VIU Terrace with swimming-pool and breathtaking panoramic views (a unique feature of this hotel) complete the scene: extreme luxury in every corner. Spa and gym are kitted out by Technogym, and there's also a special area set aside for CrossFit training.
At the moment, only two floors are open to the public but the Hotel VIU Milan will be in full swing in early April, just in time for the 2017 Salone del Mobile, Milan. Certainly, a hotel worthy of a real design addict, on the hunt for a strategic central location, somewhere special to unwind and reload during the hectic Milan Design Week ahead.
