Plissè by Alessi, the art of cooking in designer pleating

COVER: Alessi, Plissè – design Michele De Lucchi

The first one to dare put on a pleated dress was the thermoplastic resin electric kettle designed by Michele De Lucchi for Alessi in 2018: Plissè, an unexpected and refined version of the traditional kitchen appliance which transformed itself into an object with unmistakable haute couture allure.

Today the architect once again puts on his stylist hat to present the kitchen with the new Plissé 2020 autumn/winter collection. This time a blender, hand blender, toaster and juicer are all ready to show off their pleated dresses which once again have been inspired by fifties’ and sixties’ fashion (back in style this winter). The colors are bold and matte: red because we are already thinking about Christmas, black because it is the chic color par excellence, white as an homage to the purity of winter, and gray as a refined and metropolitan alternative to the timeless total black.

“The pleats add volume to dresses which express lightness and joy. In short, Plissé is an iconic form that we have called on for its joyous and festive spirit” explained De Lucchi. And thanks to this elegant, dynamic and appropriately frivolous design, the tiny everyday pleasures—from breakfast to teatime, a quick snack and a gourmet dinner—become the perfect occasions to enjoy oneself in the kitchen with these surprising domestic sculptures. They are objects of unquestionable practicality, but also chef’s tools that are ready to interpret the art of cooking with a chic touch.

They are symbols of contemporaneity to be used and admired every day in perfect Alessi style.
