2 collectible animal figurines by 12 different designers; this is Woody Zoody in brief. And the starting point was a wooden block, a chance for each designer to become a sort of Mastro Geppetto (the famous carpenter from the Pinocchio novel and film). And what’s the result: an octopus, an ostrich, a ray, a toucan and many more besides (there’s even a platypus), which have come to life partly by magic and partly for our own amusement.
What is it? Woody Zoody is a series of 12 collectible wooden animals.
What is special about it? Woody Zoody is a series of 12 collectible wooden animals: elegant pieces with stylised silhouettes and most importantly, each figurine is carved from an individual wooden block. In the same way as Pinocchio came from a block of wood, each figurine comes to life and makes us feel like children again.
How is it made? Each figurine is carved from an individual solid wooden block and the timber used comes from Europe, Oceania, North and South America. What’s more, each figurine is carved from a different type of timber, which comes from its continent of origin.
Who is it by? Woody Zoody was set up by Roberta Brambilla and Aurelie Callegari, who got 12 different designers involved: Federico Angi, Giorgio Biscaro, Francesco Faccin, Odoardo Fioravanti, Giulio Iacchetti, Elia Mangia, Giacomo Moor, Lanzavecchia&Wai, Lorenz+Kaz, Lorenzo Palmeri, Matteo Ragni, Paolo Ulian. This concept came from chatting to Giulio Iacchetti and it grew to become a little challenge: a designer toy.
We have chosen it because… The Woody Zoody figurines have elegant clean silhouettes (they will look a treat on your desk) and are a lot of fun. At a first glance, Woody Zoody evokes a number of different emotions: an instant liking, an almost childlike fondness, it brings back old memories and makes you dream new dreams. Impossible not to fall in love with the beaver’s cute muzzle, the fox’s cunning gaze and the chick’s clumsy waddle. We gotta have’ em all!
