n a beautiful tree-lined street in one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in Manhattan, the refurbishment of an entire building has given life to a new residential project of thirty housing units with luxury finishes “Made in Italy”. The project is by Brooklyn-based Combined Architecture and Interiors, best-known for its unique concepts for architecture and interiors and GD Arredamenti, an Italian firm that stands out for its classic-modern design, removed from extravagances and with a style that endures in time.

The Velvet Elite kitchen by GD Arredamenti is in 3-layer, solid oak in a brushed finish stained black, one of the many finishes of the collection available. The countertop is in Carrara marble.

32 East 1st Street is a stone’s throw away from the junction in which the Bowery crosses Houston Street, separating NoHo and East Village, two of the coolest (and most expensive) neighbourhoods in the whole of Manhattan. Surrounded by crowded fashionable cafes, live music venues and ultra-chic stores that compete with each other to predict the latest trends, the building’s new apartments form a peaceful heaven, understated, elegant and welcoming.

The original structure of the ten-storey building is clad in limestone slabs that as they are visually detached from the façade, create a grid-effect. On the seventh floor, where the roof gardens are located, they frame the magnificent terraces of the penthouses.

The Velvet Elite kitchen by GD Arredamenti stands out for its simple style and attention to ergonomic parameters. Thanks to a flat groove opening system (the 26 mm thick door is cut at 30º), you are able to open the doors easily with no handle.

The unique aspect of this exclusive residential project lies in the fact that you are able to customize every configuration, including the modules of the system. Thirty one kitchens and fifty five bathroom units are made-to-measure to comply with the different layouts of the various apartments.

Bathroom furniture by GD Arredamenti

In the bathrooms, the warmth of the wood used for the washbasin furniture balances the cold effect of the marble. The oak wood used by GD Arredamenti comes from forests with controlled reforestation.

In this exclusive and ambitious project, architectural rationality, defined by the limestone structure, blends with simple design and the warmth of wood, distinctive aspects of the furniture. The result is a minimal, refined aesthetic, capable of withstanding passing fashions and endure in time.
