Beauty, tradition and design, in Tuscany the rebirth of a farm

Thanks to an attentive renovation that combines the antique with the modern, this historic property in Tuscany recovered all of its original beauty. Located at the top of a gentle hill in the Chianti region, along the road that connects Siena to Arezzo, this farm has risen from the ashes thanks to its new owners, who recognised its potential right away. It was love at first sight and soon the project was identified by one concept: to blend traditional Tuscan architecture with contemporary design.

The authenticity of the materials has played a crucial role. The walls, whether stone or masonry, have been restored and left exposed. This was no small feat, especially if you take into account the wiring that had to be covered by tracks.
The floor is in terracotta tiles from Tuscany, handmade according to the local tradition. Several of the pieces of furniture are an authentic example of rural simplicity, whereas the new kitchen is a clearly more refined space, in which modern design contrasts with the traditional architecture.

BROWSE THE GALLERY

With two small windows, the kitchen is an ultra-functional workspace, solely set aside for food preparation. Different colours and materials stress the juxtaposition between the old and the new: the countertops in Travertine limestone, the central island with an integrated hob in brass and the purple kitchen cabinets at either side. The same contrast continues in the bathrooms and bedrooms. The colours, in delicate shades of sky-blue and pink, are enhanced by the lighting, designed in partnership with the experts at Chelli Progetto Luce, who worked on energy efficiency too.

The swimming pool is an integral part of the surrounding landscape, additional confirmation of the guiding principle of the entire project. With its wall in Travertine limestone and the surrounding lawn, it resembles more a tank for collecting rain water than the luxurious swimming pool of a large villa.

By looking at it now, you would think that there has always been life here. Respectful of the local vernacular tradition, the renovation project includes subtle modern additions and special attention has been paid to the authenticity of materials, colour pigmentation included. The result is a choral harmony that fascinates and radiates serenity, just like the enchanting landscape of the surrounding Chianti region.
