A
warm and welcoming home tempts you to stay indoors in front of a blazing fire, waiting for the cold to pass, lounging on comfy sofas and enjoying views over the rooftops... The lucky owners of this large apartment on the top floor of a period building in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, an elegant bourgeois neighbourhood south of the famous Kurfürstendamm, are a young couple and their beautiful dog. And the only reason they leave their home every morning (even if reluctantly so), is that they work in interior design.

Large floor-to-ceiling windows fill the living room with light. Warm and welcoming colours, oak flooring, carpet in shades of grey and X-one sofas by Henge.
The apartment was built by raising the existing top floor. Here, large windows are subdivided into narrow panes, in tune with the style of this apartment block and inspired by the typical facade of industrial buildings in Berlin. The modern interior by the famous Ruby Design-Living in Berlin Mitte was precisely inspired by the loft-like feel of this apartment with large free-flowing open-plan spaces.

Left-hand side, Ventura Lounge armchair with matching footstool designed by Jean-Marie Massaud for Poliform. Capsula glass pendant lamps by Brokis, and next to the sofa, reading lights with an adjustable arm by DCW.
This scheme focuses on infusing a welcoming feel with the use of streamlined furniture. The timber flooring and the large light-reflecting carpet are the starting point, but it’s this unique colour palette in particular, which increases a sense of intimacy, even in such a large space. The timber floor and the bright white ceiling contrast with dark grey walls and sofas in a fainter grey/ brown. Splashes of colour from purple to lilac, armchair and cushions, to the golden yellow of the TV console, are the cherry on the cake in this harmonious colour scheme.
Here, lighting design plays an important role and lamps are the focal point of every room. Lamps hang from the ceiling like small works of art, they undeniably capture your attention. In the living room, Capsula, the bunch of glass spheres by Brokis and over the dining table, Shadows XL (Brokis), the series of 10 different small pendant lamps in blown glass and hand turned wood. They reference lights traditionally found in old French workshops, and grouped together they give life to a thousand different stories.
A unique and refined apartment. The sophisticated shades of grey of finishes and furniture and the elegant lighting strategy with dramatic pendant lamps is what makes this enchanting home really special. With great sensitivity, Ruby Design-Living has created a harmony of colours and lights which bring the whole scheme to life. For our owners, and this also includes their dog, it’s a celebration every time they come home.
