So, for a moment, think that you could be drinking a cup of coffee as you listen to informal talks on architecture and contemporary life…
This is the mindset behind the Café della Stampa, conceived as an opportunity for the key players in the worlds of media and design to exchange and compares idea. By fostering a conversation between publications and professionals in the fields of architecture and interior design, this informal talk series aims to offer an in-depth analysis on pressing issues in the worlds of bathrooms and tiles.
The fourth edition includes the following publications: Abitare, AD – Architectural Digest, Chiesa Oggi – Architettura e Comunicazione, DDN – Design Diffusion News, Domus, Guest, Il Bagno Oggi e Domani, Interni, La Repubblica, Marie Claire Maison, NII Progetti and The Plan.
Held at the fair’s Centro Servizi, the different times of the day are articulated by a variety of talks: Breakfast Time in the morning (from 10.00 to 10.45), Appetizer Time before lunch (from 12.00 to 12.45), Coffee Time that introduces the second part of the day (from 15.00 to 15.45). So, let’s explore the proposed topics.

On Monday, September 23rd, at 10:30 a.m., Il Bagno Oggi e Domani, a talk that focuses on " La sostenibile intelligenza creativa del design(er)”, held by Stefano Maffei (director of Polyfactory Milano) and Diego Grandi (architect and designer, founding-member of DGO_Diego Grandi Office, a design studio that focuses on product design, interior design and design consultancy)
At midday it’s time for Domus with a talk entitled “Il colore è uno strumento imprescindibile nella progettazione, capace di migliorare la nostra vita quotidiana”.. Held by Manuela Banaiti (Baolab Studio), Andrea Marcante and Adelaide Testa (Studio Marcante Testa).
At 15.00, concludes the first day, Marie Claire Maison with” Punto, linea, superficie: un dialogo sui nuovi codici della decorazione”, a talk with Patrizia Piccinini (architect and journalist c/o Marie Claire Maison), Gunilla Zanaboni (Studio Gupica), Gio Pagani (architect, owner of Giopagani), Pierre Gonalons (interior designer and art director of Paradisoterrestre).
On the 24th September, Breakfast Time at 10.00 am is hosted by GUEST magazine and the theme is "Surfaces for Hospitality & Wellness", the speakers are Antonia Zanardini (Director of Guest) and Francesco Scullica (Professor of Design at the Polytechnic of Milan, Head of the Masters in Hotel Design and Wellness Design at the same University).
The Appetizer at 12.00 is served by La Repubblica with a talk entitled: "Si fa presto a dire benessere" in which Roberto Palomba (architect co-owner of Studio Palomba Serafini) and Aurelio Magistà (Head of the Home & Design section of the Repubblica website) analyse the latest lifestyle trends and ways of life.
The Coffee Time of 15.00 is hosted by AD with a talk aptly named “Interior Design e i nuovi Strumenti della Ceramica”. It’s hosted by Massimo Iosa Ghini (architect and designer), Francesca Faraone (architect and interior designer), Alessandro Ubertazzi (design and materials historian).
September 25th begins, in the morning with “Focus sul settore terziario: cantieri e progetti per il triennio 2019-2021” introduced by NIIPROGETTI and analyzed with evidence provided by Andrea Boni (CEO of Editrice Industriale and President of Anes), Luca Dondi (CEO of Nomisma) and the moderator Giulia Guerra.
The event at 12.00 is with INTERNI and the talk is entitled “Identità ceramica. Superfici e progetto architettonico” is led by Cino Zucchi (architect, professor of Architectural and Urban Design at the Polytechnic of Milan, founding-partner of Studio Cino Zucchi Architetti) with the audience present.
The last event of the day, the afternoon Coffee Time with THE PLAN and the seminar entitled: “I materiali dell’architettura”. Gianandrea Barreca (architect, the founding-partner of Barreca & La Varra) and Francesco Isidori (architect, the founding-partner of Labics) are going to lead the discussion and animate the seminar with reflections on a key topic for architects.
There are two talks planned for the 26th September.
At 10.00 am for Breakfast Time the topic presented by DDN is "Open Cities", a reflection on contemporary design that focuses on an open and sustainable city through an analysis presented by Alessandro Scandurra (Architect - Scandurra Studio Architettura).
Subsequently, Appetizer Time at 12.00 with ABITARE and the talk “La tecnologia del cambiamento. Leggere il futuro di un edificio con un software libero e gratuito”. Gian Carlo Magnoli Bocchi (Magnoli & Partners) and Stefano Rugginenti (Polytechnic of Milan), moderated by Silvia Botti (part of the editorial team of ABITARE), analyse the effect of the digital revolution in architecture and the construction industry.
On the 27th September, the Cafè della Stampa series draws to an end with a seminar supported by CHIESA OGGI entitled “Gestione integrata dei beni culturali ecclesiastici. Buone pratiche per il riuso e la valorizzazione del patrimonio religioso”. A formal topic that nonetheless, has important ramifications on the architectural scene, analysed by Caterina Parrello (Editorial Director Chiesa Oggi), Giovanni Campagnoli (Head of Riusiamo L'Italia), Roberto Tognetti (Head of iperPiano), Cinzia Pagni (Referent RE-Anima), Michele Cascio (Spokespoerson Erco).
