2020

marks 100 years since the birth of Vico Magistretti (1920-2006). To celebrate this important landmark the Fondazione Vico Magistretti and Studio Museum brings in the new year with the first in a series of initiatives dedicated to this great master’s centenary.

On January 7, 2020 the Studio Magistretti online and digital archive will be inaugurated: over 30,000 drawings, sketches, magazine clippings, notes, documents, and more than 450 projects, 400 historical/critical profiles, 10 research programs and a geolocated map of the Magistretti’s architectural works.

The portal archivio.vicomagistretti.it will be the starting point for the activity calendar that the Foundation will present in the coming months. It is the first complete online monograph (in Italian and English) exhibiting a complete record of the architect’s work. A meticulous and timely collection put together thanks to the contribution of Fondazione Cariplo. It brings us on a journey through time, starting in 1946 when Vico was a young architecture graduate taking over his father’s studio in Via Conservatorio in Milan.

It is an occasion not to be missed. The materials are not only available to researchers and authorized personnel, but also to those who are curious and passionate for design or those who would like to further examine the work and life of a great architect, designer and urban planner. Would you like to find out where a certain building designed by Magistretti can be found? Just take a look at the online map. Don’t remember when an iconic Atollo lamp was designed or when he won his first Compasso d’Oro? Well, there is a research timeline. Patents, design reports, sketches, blueprints, photographs and catalogs are available for consultation with a simple click. They will take us all the way to 2006, the year of Vico Magistretti’s passing.
