n its third edition, C.Ar.D - Contemporary Art & Design is on from Saturday the 9th July until Sunday the 2nd October 2016. Contemporary art and design festival C.Ar.D. is itinerant on the hills, which surround the city of Piacenza, northern Italy and touches the towns of Agazzano, Nibbiano, Piozzano and Pianello Val Tidone. This is also a chance to spend a few days in an extremely evocative setting, surrounded by nature. The itinerary goes through several local places of interest as well as disused industrial buildings, generally closed to the public. So, during C.Ar.D, works of art and site specific design projects give exposure to and breathe life into these hills, which become the perfect backdrop for a variety of different artists.
Without a doubt, C.Ar.D. is an opportunity to learn about some of the most innovative names on the international design scene. For example, worthy of mention are Matali Crasset, Giulio Iacchetti, Ulrich, Invernomuto, Martine Bedin, Egger and many more besides, ready to measure their talent against the stark charm of local co-operatives, farms, bowling grounds and Sunday schools.
C.Ar.D. comes from an idea by curators Paolo Baldacci and Daniela Volpi, set up in partnership with an international scientific panel and promoted by non-profit organization Amici di C.Ar.D. What’s more, C.Ar.D. is a chance to learn how contemporary art and design can be used to describe present-day society. Accessible to all, C.Ar.D. doesn’t just include educational itineraries, in fact it also has workshops and temporary studios where the public can meet artists and watch them working on site specific projects.
