top Italian manufacturer, Alias celebrates its fortieth anniversary with a full calendar of cultural events. In Paris, the celebrations include the exhibition Le Mobilier d'Architectes 1960/2020. Held at the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine until the 30th September, it puts on display furniture, lamps and miscellaneous objects, designed by the most famous architects of the last sixty years.
The pieces put on display in fact, include two icons by Alias, Seconda by Mario Botta and Laleggera by Riccardo Blumer that perfectly represent the brand’s creativity and cutting-edge technical research.
The exhibition illustrates the decorative arts as a process that transform imposing architectural masterpieces into small-scale objects. In fact with its minimalist silhouette, seat in pierced sheet metal and deep wave, Seconda has a similar architectural language to the buildings designed by the iconic Swiss architect himself.
Laleggera by Riccardo Blumer on the other hand, combines a traditional material such as solid wood with a more innovative one such as expanded polyurethane, representing the top echelons of research and technology. Practical, durable and stackable, Laleggera perfectly sums up Alias’ design philosophy.
Combined with the other pieces put on display, these two chairs interact with the spaces of the museum as well as creating a connection the permanent collection.
