rtek celebrates its 80th birthday with a new exhibition: Artek: Art and Technology. Artek: Art and Technology will be at the MC Selvini showroom in Milan, from the 26th November until the 9th January 2016.

Artek was set up in 1935 in Helsinki, Finland by a group of young dreamers, which included: architects Alvar and Aino Aalto, patron Marie Gullichsen and art historian Nils Gustav Hahl. Since its beginning, Artek has built a global reputation for its ground-breaking manifesto of ideas. In fact, the brand focuses on bringing modern art, interior design and manufacture together, for a new way of life.

Artek: Art and Technology describes the soul of this brand, through furniture, lighting design and accessories by top Finish designers and several of the most important names on the international scene. Each piece comes from a mix of extreme functionality and poetical simplicity. This demonstrates how Artek stays in tune with the times, by manufacturing pieces, which draw from a mix art, design and architecture for an absolute unique and personal style.

This is why the MC Selvini showroom is the perfect location for this exhibition. In fact, it has always been a port of call for lovers of Scandinavian design and also the main Artek retailer in the city of Milan. What’s more, MC Selvini skillfully brings classical pieces by top Scandinavian designers together with more contemporary products.

Artek: Art and Technology is shown in a sophisticated environment, also rich in history. There are iconic pieces by Aalto and Tapio Wirkkala, designs by Ronan, Erwan Bouroullec and Konstantin Grcic, as well as photos and drawings taken from the Artek archive. Furthermore, visitors will leave having had an exquisitely contemporary vision of the Arke body of work.
