ico Magistretti and Atollo are intrinsically linked. The genius of the first is connected to the disarming beauty of the second. The genius of the first is connected to the disarming beauty of the second.
This simple everyday object – the ATOLLO lamp, in fact – stands for an entire generation of Italian architecture and design and to this day, it continues to inspire the work of designers from all around the world.
In occasion of the 2018 Salone Internazionale del Mobile and the Fuorisalone fringe event series, with the exhibition " ATOLLOARTE ", Oluce celebrates ATOLLO’s fortieth birthday, designed by the unforgettable Vico Magistretti.
A name that stands for superior quality, Vico Magistretti – even as time goes by – remains an undisputed example of a modern, exemplar and refined way of life.
There’s also the work of some of the most important names on the contemporary Italian art scene: Enzo Cucchi, Mimmo Paladino, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Ettore Spalletti.
Each of these artists has paid an individual tribute to the Atollo lamp and to what it represents. Works of art inspired by the lamp itself, showing different perspectives on the art world and different ways of interpreting such a distinct design icon.
Besides showing the work of four different artists, Oluce has decided to celebrate Atollo by unveiling a special-edition piece. This decorative piece has a sculptural silhouette in Porto marble from Liguria. Made from the same block, carved and finished by skilled stone cutters.
The intense black marble with golden veining, confers to Magistretti’s lamp a sculptural allure that highlights its simple shape, fulfilling the celebratory aspect of the version unveiled at AtolloArte, an exhibition to celebrate Atollo by Oluce.
