astel tones, naïf patterns, a rounded backdrop as well as design icons. With the exhibition Urban Living Milano, the multifaceted designer and talented illustrator Elena Salmistraro shines a light on the history of the Swiss brand Vitra. Besides, the designer’s unique interpretation of urban life transforms Spotti Milano in a tribute to her hometown.
Elena transforms Spotti Milano, the iconic reference point for design in the city of Milan, with boldly-coloured terrazzo tiles, city sunsets in shades of orange and sorbet-coloured backdrops inspired by the doorways of elegant buildings. As a result, Spotti Milano is transformed into a magical place, where dreamlike feel is combined with the history of Vitra (from George Nelson’s sofas to the coffee tables by Eames, from the iconic chairs by Verner Panton to those by Jean Prouvé). In addition, colour palette of the Swiss brand simultaneously dialogues with the fantastic world and the characters created by Elena Salmistraro’s imagination.
Part of the project Vitra Home Stories for Springs 2019, Urban Living Milano proposes an energetic, dynamic and cosmopolite interpretation or contemporary life, inspired by one of the designer’s 3D illustrations. Expertly executed, we might add. The overall effect is in fact powerful, refined and radical: an immersive experience into pure creativity with visual experimentations and quotes, illustrating life in the city of Milan with a combination of functionality, colour, art and light. This creates a space with a typical Milanese feel, as well as a dreamy space in which you able to loose your bearings in a combination of icons and authentic life.
