or Gufram, the following are two opportunities thrown into one: Dubai Design Week, Dubai, U.A.E and its fiftieth birthday. In fact, Gufram is now fifty years old and to celebrate this, it shows, for the first time in this emirate, the key pieces of the last years.
From the 27th until the 30th October 2015, Gufram’s radical design becomes an absolute player in Downtown Design, the most important commercial platform of the Middle East. All the different spaces at the Design District will be enlivened by iconic pieces like the lip-shaped Bocca sofa, the extremely popular ironic Pratone chaise-longue and even the unconventional Cactus clothes stand. More recent pieces are also on display and these include: the Jolly Roger armchair by Fabio Novembre, the Globe wardrobe by the Jobe design studio and the Bounce chair by Karim Rashid.
You will find the same bold and unconventional designs, which ,with their strong personality, changed contemporary design forever, becoming true landmarks of radicalism. And this could have been because Gufram mixes industry with craftsmanship and art, or maybe even because Gufram has become a voice for unconventional irony. The fact is that each piece has an individual aesthetic quality and a bold design; this brings material testing and new technologies together.
Certainly, the outcome is a truly artistic space, which takes us to a magical land where there are no defining rules. This exhibition, rich in history and generous in creativity, helps us to learn about the history and cultural heritage of radical design, which was started by Gufram.
