magine to be strolling in a magical garden, smelling the sweet scent of flowers and savouring a drink surrounded by lush landscape. What’s this all about? I Maestri del Paesaggio is back! Set up by the city of Bergamo, northern Italy and non-profit organization Arketipos, cultural festival I Maestri del Paesaggio is on from 7th until the 25th September. 19 days of events, talks, workshops, exhibitions and shows, which take a look at nature’s wildest side (even if through manmade projects).
The title of the 2016 edition is Wild Landscape, and just like in the past it brings to Bergamo some of the best garden and landscape designers on the international scene. Wild Landscape focuses on the relationship we as a human race have with nature, and especially on an ever increasing need to preserve it, enjoy it to the full and safeguard its precious biodiversity (this is particularly the case for urban settings).
An example? The installation in Piazza Vecchia in Bergamo Alta (the historic centre of town) by Stefan Tischer, architecture professor at the University of Alghero, Sardinia, as well as international landscape designer: a 68 metre-long platform on which visitors can place a strip of local turf, while surrounded by five different types of environments (urban, floodplain, submontane, mountain and alpine). This is almost like an ideal journey from the hills to the mountains. Another extraordinary and most evocative installation is the Clubino Square, an adventure park in piazza Mascheroni, a must for the kids.
Light displays, drinks served in extraordinary gardens, exhibitions, competitions and events for the whole family. So, don’t let I Maestri del Paesaggio slip away, especially if you’ve never been before, if you are madly curious or just want to spend a fun day out. Amidst events, design, fashion and gourmet food, you’ll see Bergamo under a new and evocative light.
