ondon’s abuzz for the 16th edition of London Design Festival, opened on the 15th September 2018. Until the 23rd September in fact, the metropolis is animated by a rich calendar of events (over 400) on the worlds of creativity and design.
There are many brands taking part (the Italian firms include Moroso, Molteni&C, B&B Italia, Lema, Unifor, Kartell by Laufen), who with exhibitions, installations and talks have involved the top international architects and designers, transforming London into a huge design district.
This is a unique opportunity to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the festival’s partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum, the event’s official hub. Although London Design Festival isn’t exclusively held at the V&A: from 2007 in fact, the festival is accompanied by the installations of the Landmark Projects, placed is several key landmark locations in London.
Besides the modular pavilion built in the in the V&A using 60 cubic metres of American Tulipwood (it highlights two important global causes, sustainable building and climate change), other must-see events are Time for Tea, held on the first floor at Fortnum & Mason, the iconic department store in Piccadilly Circus with an assortment of tea paraphernalia, the rainbow-coloured alphabet made from 26 chairs that brings to life Finsbury Avenue Square in Broadgate and the timeless Trafalgar Square with its fluorescent red lion by the designer Es Devlin.
Designjuncton, the festival’s fringe event series that focuses on innovation, is back for its eighth year. Located in various areas around town, Designjunction is a showcase for over 200 international brands from the fields of furniture, accessory and lighting design. Whereas from the 20th September, London Design Fair animates East London with over 550 exhibitors from 36 countries worldwide.
