ere’s something for all you design buffs and this time it’s an invite to the cinema: Milano Design Film Festival (MDFF) is back. Now in its 4th edition, Milano Design Film Festival is on from the 6th to the 9th October at the Anteo cinema. It shines a light on all the different sides of a design projetc with over 60 films from around the world, which include worldwide, as well as Italian and European premieres.
And this year, we're really spoilt for choice: The Campana Brothers by Fernando and Humberto directed by Gabriela Bernd, which is a poetic tale on the lesser known side of Brasil, seen through the eyes of the Campana Brothers (who will be at the screening). Another must is REM by Thomas Koolhaas, just shown at the 73rd Venice Film Festival, on Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, directed by his son.
Volevo essere Walt Disney (lit. I wanted to be Walt Disney), is a tribute to another great designer. This film by Francesca Molteni takes you to the world of designer Alessandro Mendini. And there are also Italian films on present and past designers, from Jean Nouvel to Piero Fornasetti, from Eero Saarinen to Andrea Branzi, and several experimental films, which use art to show new points of view and what the different layers in a project are.
MDFF includes: documentaries, short films and product launches, due to the many brands which have sponsored this event (Molteni&C, Flos, Marazzi, Fantini, Artemide, Pedrali, Moroso just to name a few). Plus, there's room for debates and workshops on architecture. Once again, Milano Design Film Festival is the ideal cultural event for those who want to learn more about this field.
