re you dreaming of a unique, special holiday? So, don’t miss out on this opportunity offered by Airbnb: an exclusive tour of the city of Tokyo, accompanied by one of the top contemporary Japanese architects, Kengo Kuma.
On the 31st July, five lucky winners will have a chance to meet the architect Kengo Kuma, who’s famous for projects such as the Scottish headquarters of the V&A, in his studio in the Aoyama district. The extraordinary tour starts here in fact, illustrating the behind the scenes details of the new project for the Tokyo 2020 Stadium (currently being constructed) and describing other high-profile projects too such as the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, built for the 1964 Olympics by Kenzo Tange, who has been a great source of inspiration for Kengo Kuma himself.
At the end of the tour, after having visited the building site for the National Stadium, analysing the materials as well as the creative and construction processes, the group has a chance to relax on the panoramic rooftop of the Sunny Hills, a trellis structure made for a tea shop in the heart of the city.
“With this experience, I intend to show people what my idea of hospitality is” the Japanese archistar Kengo Kuma explains. In fact, the lucky winners of this exclusive Airbnb Experience (the format was started in November 2016 and involves 180 cities around the world) will have a chance to taste some delicious pineapple cake and sip a cup of exquisite tea, chatting with the architect himself.
