illennium Tension is the main theme of the initial edition of the Porto Design Biennale, currently underway. Porto Design Biennale reflects on the relationship that exists between contemporary design and the modern design model of the past millennium. This year, the festival shines a light on Italian design, all the subsequent editions are going to focus on a different country.
What country could me more appropriate than Italy, to represent cutting-edge design? Illustrating the best the Italian scene has to offer, Territorio Italia includes three must-see exhibitions: Frontiere - Espressioni di Design Contemporaneo (Palacio Das Artes - Fundação Da Juventude), Riccardo Dalisi - Perfetta Imperfezione (held at Museu Da Misericórdia) and Abitare Italia - Icone del Design Italiano.
All the three exhibitions focus on the following topics: design, culture and territory, intended as the material, social and human capital of a specific geographical area as well as innovation and socio-cultural changes. A striking example of contemporary Italian design is presented by the radiator Origami, designed by Alberto Meda for Tubes (the winner of several international design awards) and part of the exhibition Abitare Italia - Icone del Design Italiano, curated by architects Paolo Deganello and Maria Milano.
