new exhibition on the history of the Compasso d’Oro Award from 1954 to the present day is on, from the 11th to the 18th September 2017, at La Rinsacente di Milano. With this exhibition, La Rinascente di Milano celebrates the history of the most prestigious Italian design award.
Overseen by studio Rovatti Design and housed in the basement of this iconic Milanese department store, this exhibition puts on display the award-winning pieces of the last 24 editions. 329 designs have received the coveted award since its first edition, launched in 1954 precisely at La Rinascente. While, there have been 1874 honourable mentions gone to products with unique qualities, and not to mention lifetime achievement awards (101) and the Targhe Giovani award for emerging talents (67). The Compasso d’Oro honours the pieces that have played a crucial role in shaping Italian design history, currently part of the Compasso d’Oro historic archive overseen by ADI.
This exhibition portrays a crucial part of our nation’s historical heritage as well as the top quality of Italian design. La Rinascente successfully illustrates this with an evocative display of images spanning sixty years.
