With 85 international guests, 15 Country Ambassadors from around the world, 100 partners and supporters which include institutions, associations and the international and Italian media, Tigullio Design District (TDD) is the first annual international design event organized in Liguria.
Designed to take place in concordance with the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan to benefit local businesses, TDD will take place from June 6-12, 2022 near the spectacular Gulf of Tigullio—an important location throughout the nautical world.
This new spot is prepared to welcome designers, the sector’s businesses and those fans who want to discover the latest trends in outdoor living. There will be the latest designer proposals for the seaside, outdoors and lifestyle worlds. The event will also be promoted digitally on the site tigulliodesigndistrict.com where it will be possible for everyone to access the multimedia content of the Italian and international guests taking part in the event.
The decision to launch and organize the event during Milano Design Week is not a coincidence (taking place June this year, but going back to April in the following editions). The idea was to support the Milanese proposals with a new international design event to give even more space to everything this sector has to offer. Plus, this year the calendar is meant to promote the beauty of the Gulf of Tigullio. The TDD has been created to be a business and cultural experience for all designers and sector employees.
This year’s theme will be “What is Design?”, and the event’s guests will attempt to respond to this question with their own individual takes (later to be posted on the TDD website and YouTube channel). The question appears simple, but derives from the unfortunate lack of knowledge about Design, especially in the Ligurian territory. That’s why the Tigullio Design District will try to lead people through a series of macro-themes which will get expanded upn over following editions, in a constant dialogue and interaction between the sector’s national and international actors.
One of the events can’t-miss initiatives is the Sea Design Award 2022—a competition launched together with Nautic Experience aimed at undergrad (specifically nautical and industrial) design students in Italy. On June 6, 2022, a jury made up of designers, journalists and the founders of Nautical Experience will announce the winning projects (it will be aired on the TDD site). The winning students will be promoted on the channels of Nautic Experience and Tigullio Design District and will participate in the digital edition of TDD 2023 and future in-person events.
TDD is set to be an interesting event and a showcase to promote new talents and spread awareness of Italian design throughout the world.
