ur regular dates with renowned glassmaker Venini continue. And after shows on Carlo Scarpa, Napoleone Martinuzzi and Tomaso Buzzi, now it’s time for Fulvio Bianconi. Fulvio Bianconi alla Venini will be at Le Stanze del Vetro (set up by a partnership between Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Pentagram Stinftung), in the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice; from the 13th September 2015 to the 10th January 2016. Curator Marino Barovier has chosen over 300 pieces, all of them specifically designed by Fulvio Bianconi for this famous Murano glassmaker.
Graphic designer, illustrator and extremely creative product designer. Fulvio Bianconi (1915-1996) has worked in partnership with Venini since the aftermath of the Second Warld War, making a name for himself for his whimsical silhouettes painted in bold colours.
Certainly, stand out pieces of the exhibition are: chequered vases in bright colours, vases painted in speckled patterns, anthropomorphic figurines and real icons of the fifties like the famous Fazzoletto vases, which have become a symbol of Venice after the war.
Bianconi spent his career constantly trying out new ideas, becoming one of the more influential glassmakers in Murano in the twentieth century. All of his designs tell a story, which is still relevant. What’s more, Bianconi is remembered for a desire to push boundaries and his efforts to mix new ideas with traditional manufacturing techniques. By working in this way, Fulvio Bianconi brought out many fresh and eclectic pieces, which are still distinctly modern in taste.
