On the 16th January, in occasion of IMM, the furniture fair in Cologne, Design Post Köln will open its doors to the public after a month of preparations for the upcoming event. All of us are invited to take a look inside this showroom, housed where until the nineties the Köln-Deutz post office headquarters and parcel sorting station used to be, a stone’s throw away from the famous fair. Design Post is not a store, but a showroom in the true sense of the term. In the wonderful historic setting of this relaxed light-filled space, we can browse and be inspired by the latest by top international brands.
“A showroom for design aficionados, a boulevard for aesthetes and a source of inspiration for design industry professionals” this is the concept behind Design Post. The location couldn’t be better, large iron and glass station warehouses, built in 1913 with the most advanced technology of the time, now have been declared moments of industrial architecture. Renovated with great care by studio OIII from Amsterdam, they are an excellent example of a successful regeneration project. From disused station to popular industrial design showroom, exactly opposite the Cologne fair, where one of the most important yearly events of the furniture industry takes place.
Design Post was set up by two successful Dutch entrepreneurs, Paul van den Berg and Willem van Ast, who have started brands Montis and Arco respectively. With thirty years of experience in the field, and working in partnership with their Cologne team headed by Volker Streckel, they succeeded in building a common display space for over thirty top brands, from furniture to lighting design and textiles. You can find them on the Design Post website, names like Agape, Zeitraum, Arper, Danskina, Kristalia, Lema or Moroso…
Design Post is like taking a really beautiful stroll in the world of design. As it’s purely a showroom, you can see, touch and learn about the various finishes on display. It’s also an innovative experiment which deals with an evolving market, making available information, training opportunities and experiments, accompanied by a rich programme of events and experimental partnerships. We encourage you to visit and we wish a long life to Design Post, which this year celebrated its first ten years of success.
