lerkenwell Design Week officially ended on the 25th May, but the city of London hasn’t stopped celebrating the world of design. And this time around, it does so in partnership with an exceptional brand: Marazzi, a world-class leader in the field of ceramics. Marazzi chose Clerkenwel, the London borough most famously linked to the creative industry, as the location for its first British showroom: 300 sqm over three floors on St. John Street, handy for the Clerkenwell Road.
Bright and elegant, the Marazzi showroom was designed by architects Lorenzo Baldini and Antonio Pisano, founding partners of studio Marcel Mauer. Visitors are greeted by a dramatic black-and-white entrance, which forms a sort of curtain and unexpectedly reveals the rest of the space. And just around the corner, a surprise awaits: the ground floor display, constructed from different materials, recalls a pyramid, and each step is clad in different types of stoneware. This harmonious scheme brings together concrete, marble and stone, the perfect backdrop for displaying the latest by Marazzi. What’s more, the top floor is part artist studio and part architecture practice: here the in-house design team is always at the ready. There’s a large table in the centre of the room, which bends into different workstations. Mooboards which show the brand’s latest tile series are hung all around the space, partly covering the exposed brickwork, showing us once again what’s on offer.
In a classic-elegant space, the Marazzi London showroom brings together technical innovation with creativity. Marazzi’s strong points are infused in every inch: top quality sustainable materials, design sophistication, cutting edge creativity and a touch of the extraordinary.
