fficina Antiquaria is a charming vintage design gallery. Of course, vintage furniture has an extraordinary charm no matter where you are, but it is the masterful staging in the large gallery space which really won us over. Here, against the backdrop of walls and floors in contrasting colours, rare twentieth-century designs are elegantly combined with unique finds and Art Deco pieces.
Founder and director of this marvellous gallery is Luca Vitali. After attending specific studies of the antiques, the history of furniture and the most advanced restoration techniques he decided to open the Officina Antiquaria.
Officina Antiquaria is tucked in a small street at the heart of the new fashion and design district of Milan, a few steps from Corso Como and opposite the historic Trattoria della Pesa. And a little over a year ago, a new, prestigious neighbour arrived: the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation, designed by Herzog & De Meuron, winners of the Pritzker Prize in 2001.
Curious and eclectic, Luca Vitali combines passion with profession. He loves everything about art and furniture, and their history, and he travels on the lookout some rare pieces not yet identified. What’s more, at the back of the gallery he created a small workshop – namely the Officina - specialised in the conservation of antique and 20th century furniture, including frames and oil and tempera paintings.
The Officina Antiquaria is an extraordinary place where beautiful pieces are shown with great attention to detail. The atmosphere takes us back in time and makes us experience the cultivated and exclusive Milanese flair of times gone by. And this is just a few steps away from the hectic performing of the capital of contemporary design…
