ince it first opened in 2009 in Frankfurt, Selected Gallery has been a constant work in progress. Selected Gallery is both a “concept store” and an interior design studio and recently, these two joint activities have been brought together under the same roof. The store is located in a very central street, coming up to the cathedral and Kleinmarkthalle, a market for dainties of every kind and origin, which is greatly loved by locals and tourists alike. Now, two vast floors filled with light also house the office.
„If you invest in beauty, it will remain with you all the days of your life.“ This sentence by Frank Lloyd Wright is Ralf Böckle's motto. Ralf Böckle is the minds behind Selected Gallery. Throughout his career, Ralf, an interior designer, has always run his interior design studio together with a showroom, where he could show clients his unconventional and innovative design concepts. And in this new location, a lot larger and brighter than before, he also has enough room for the team of designers of his architecture office Schöne Räume (beautiful spaces). Ralf finds beauty in a variety of different objects, the most impart thing is that they are quality pieces, which stand the test of time. In his gallery, free from preconceptions, Ralf constantly brings together different styles and “things“.
Selected Gallery is a store, which is a constant work in progress. It pioneered the new breed of concept stores, which are all the rage now. Ralf has always been able to skilfully display an extremely individual mix of all the things he likes: small items of furniture by unknown brands with finishes which had never been seen before, amazing lamps by budding new designers, luxury motorcycle helmets, fashionable glasses, chrono watches by Bell & Ross. This was even done in the tiny space he first had at the start of the career.
In its new 300 sqm location, Selected Gallery, is finally able to display “bulkier” pieces of furniture, even an entire living room, with more space allocated to interior design. Memorable products are also on display. And since they were first shown, some have brands become extremely popular like Tom Dixon. There are also new rising names, prototypes by local young designers and vintage pieces: Selected Gallery is always welcoming towards fresh new ideas, without any exclusion.
“Bulkier” pieces are on the first floor. Unconventional displays, where different styles and periods are brought together, are just an example of how you can bring a space to live with a personal touch. In the foreground, Gabin armchair, to the right, Lewis sofa, both pieces are by Meridiani and to the left, Lucrezia sofa by Baxter.
Frankfurt, is probably the most important financial hub in Europe and as a matter of fact, it's also a rather small city, with several iconic skyscrapers and beautiful museums. However, like Ralf Böckle says: “ If you pay more than 10 Euros for a taxy it means you have gone too far out”. And Ralf wanted his store to be right in the city centre, a few steps away from the cathedral. He has worked hard, to run both interior design studio and store and he has succeeded. We wish him all the best in doing just what he wishes.
